A Tangent is an artificial intelligence inhabiting the VirtNet. Some Tangents resemble humans, and sometimes, Tangents themselves are not aware that they are just an artificial intelligence. The Tangent Kaine has launched The Mortality Doctrine, a program in which the intelligence of a Tangent is downloaded to the mind of a human.
